I was first (properly) exposed to photography on a study abroad program at Union College in Schenectady, NY. I took all the possible photography classes I could find in the three semesters I stayed there (I put some of the photos from classes here). Later I got into the classes of the first year of bachelor program at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague (FAMU) and I am working with analog medium off and on until now.

Photography

There is something almost magical about the analog photography process. It takes ages to set up your camera correctly, to manually focus, deciding to trust a fifty-years old light-meter and then finally taking a picture on one of your 36 frames (or perhaps only one or 12 or perhaps around 3600, depending on the film size and equipment you use). Developing your photos in a darkroom (even if you stick to the basic black and white negative and decide not to push or pull or otherwise experiment) is like an alchemy and when you finally get to recall the impressed latent image into a positive photograph, you might not even remember what you were originally shooting.

Photography is also a field undeniably bound by the portrayal or the real, yet artists over the years managed to escape mere realistic reconstruction. If you want some examples, look at the work of Man RayMan Ray (Emmanuel Radnitzky) - Rayograph, 1923

If you meet me, feel free to talk photography to me. I am striving to connect the manual, slow analog world with machine learning models and to explore what this does to the medium of photography. My last experiments were in getting to learn how to capture my own "datasets" on Super8 or simple 8 mm film and ideally to develop it myself.
